Portes du Soleil

Where Swiss style en French touch meet

The ski area enjoys exceptionally good snowfall from mid-November to the end of April, with an average of 8m of powder every year.

The Portes du Soleil offers visitors a unique ski experience that they call “ski safari”: just strap into your bindings at your chalet and go exploring from resort to resort, valley to valley – and even from country to country…

The Portes du Soleil in numbers:
• 280 slopes: 26 black, 105 red, 112 blue, 37 green
• 201 mountain lifts
• 650 km of groomed slopes
• 9 snowparks
• 89 slopeside restaurants

Freestyle
The Portes du Soleil has 9 snowparks at strategic points around the ski area.
All parks feature boxes, tables, wall rides, big air jumps, raised bends, air bags and rails that riders of all levels will be more than happy with!

Avoriaz pulls out all the stops for freestyle fans with no less than five dedicated zones for all levels and disciplines: superpipe, border-cross, variety modules and the new Jake Burton-inspired snowpark, aka the Stash, which offers several routes through Les Lindarets forest and some memorable all-wood sections! Go ride here and maybe bump into Nico Droz and his homies.

In Châtel, freestyle fans head for the SmoothPark in Super Châtel. This park is fun and delivers a variety of rails, boxes and kickers.

In Les Gets, intermediate and hardcore freestylers head for Mont Chéry’s sunny Freestyle District.

Les Crosets offers a freestyle paradise at the Superpark.
Expert exponents of the art can fine-tune their line, while beginners can train on the Micro Park. Watch out on the expert line, maybe you are snaking Romain di Marchi and friends from hitting that 35m monster kicker, http://sports.espn.go.com/videohub/video/video?id=3694492
Freeride
The Portes du Soleil ski area is nothing less than a massive winter playground for powder hounds…

The Snowcross zones in Avoriaz offer skiers and snowboarders all the thrills of no-holds-barred exploring on safe but untouched slopes. After a big dump of snow, powder-lovers head for Les Crozats, La Frontalière, Les Brochaux or La Marmotte.

At Champéry, a favourite place for powder chasers is Le Cuboré. From the top of the chairlift, all you have to do is choose your route and if the Swiss Wall is an icon among ski aficionados, the side of the run is always a hit thanks to the virgin powder turns on offer.

In Les Gets both sides of the village resort offer advanced skiers numerous opportunities to sample the powder: La Rosta (Chavannes side), or for more of a challenge on Mont Chéry, Les Planeys near the Snow Park, or even Chéry Nord.

The Nyon and Chamossière peaks in Morzine are among the favourite destinations for lovers of steep and deep untracked slopes.

Les Crosets and Champoussin are pure heaven for riders. Favourite spots are the tricky Pointe de l’Au couloirs, the Combe de Bonnavau for freeride improvers, the Pierre Plate couloir towards Tovassière, or the Aiguille des Champeys ?
